Phoenix Earth Food C0-0p Board Meeting Minutes
August 11,1992

Meeting opened 7:45.  Present were Dave Engel, Dini Schut, Madelyn Gratop, Hal Hamer, managers Helen Elden and Gary Ohler.

Manager's Report:  We need more sales.  Last week's average daily sales was $490.  Approximately $90/day of that was memberships and donations.  To thrive, we should sell $900-$1000 daily.  About 2/3 of the membership has shopped to date.  With a regular newsletter, we could announce specials.  We need sharp action from Newsletter/Education/Membership committee so we can announce special events, etc.  Perhaps a phone tree to the members.  Checkbook balance is $9322.17.  Outstanding food cost is $842.81.  We are current with all other bills, etc.  We wonder how Becky has prepared for withholding, etc.  Helen announces good volunteer support.  Only last Sunday was the store understaffed.  Madelyn asked for a customer count and cost/sale.  Feedback about the store is positive and encouraging.  We are losing money on produce with spoilage.  Helen will check out an outgoing message machine to announce produce specials and other store specials as a co-op hotline for line 2.  Lana works about 30 hours/week.  Gary's new work phone # is 891-3496, 8:30-4:30 M-F.  Inventory database is 75% finished.  Gary will work on report generator from Quicken software for profit-loss statements.  We are awaiting special key to program register 2 so the scale entries can be used.  Gary and Kathy have invited us to their wedding on 8/29.  Upon return from honeymoon, Gary will take over checkbook.

Membership/Education:   330 paid members.  no meeting date announced.  Farm tour luncheon attendance was 46 persons.  Net profit was $141.15.  Dini spoke and passed out Phoenix literature.  Membership thank-you letters have been going out on time.

Ben Solomon has not delivered speaker's scripts yet.  Adequate articles are available for newsletter.  Deadline is 8/19 There is not yet a calendar of events for newsletter.  Publication date is 9/1/.  We discussed asking the question about carrying chicken or beef in the store and tabled the discussion until the freezer is hooked up.  When is the garage sale and grand opening? We contacted Paula Gibson of the Herald newspapers about doing an article about us.

New Business:  Roger Grieve will be at the 9/8 to help with marketing suggestions.  Nomination of Ilsa Knecht is tabled until Dini has an opportunity to speak with her about her time commitments when school starts again.  Meeting adjourned at 9:00.  Next meeting is 9/8.
