Phoenix Earth Food CO-OP Board Meeting Minutes
November 10, 1992

Meeting opened 7:45. Present were Dave Engel, Kyle Grefe, Dini Schut, Madelyn Gratop, Hal Hamer, Kristie Dubois, Sandy Craig, John Jascob, Managers Gary Ohler, Helen Elden and guests Theresa Gragg, Lana Voyles and many more too numerous to mention.

New Business: Minutes of 10/27/92 meeting were accepted as submitted.

Manager's Report: Sandy's distress letter stimulated a very good reaction. Last week we sold $3300 up from a weekly average of $2500. The Halloween weekend event with psychic reader stimulated the best weekend sales yet and we should have a holiday/Santa event for children in December. Penny Jimison will do mini-massages and we will also have tofu cooking classes. Gary's report was that we had less than $2000 in the bank. Sales are up. Payroll is approximately 15-18% of sales. Sales reports were later hand out. Tuesdays are the second best sales days. He will research the best sales hours and days to suggest proposals for store hour changes. October loss was less than $500. Inventory is $7900. Retail value is $10,600. We are still operating at a loss. We can scrape by with improved sales as is the current trend. The 1993 budget from the Quicken computer program will be ready by the next board meeting. Arrangements for computer entry and tracking of inventory are being made.

Frequent flyers are helping. More leafleting is in the works. We have a few customers from the telephone book listing. Helen proposed opening on Monday and one evening (Thursday or Friday). Gary suggested more research before making changes in store hours.

Jani Gatewood (volunteer coordinator) said we need more volunteers and suggested a sign asking for volunteers, not calling the mailing list. We need better coordinators for daily tasks for consistency (stockers and packagers). Jani will train cashiers.

Peggy Cypher put a piece in the Toledo Area Parent. The point place Journal had a story about us and we ran an ad with a coupon.

Dini's work with church bulletins Stewardship of the Earth continues. We passed a list for potential contacts. Din also suggested we open the other cash register. Gary suggested that would complicate daily reports. Much discussion followed.

We discussed managers should determine and establish new hours. Sunday 11/22 is a freezer fundraiser at Bebop records. Chris Stoll, Amjad Doumani, Lana Voyles and Ilsa Knecht we meet to arrange promotion.

Macrobiotic Dinner Party at Dini's House at 7:00 p.m. on 11/21, $25/couple, $15 single. We are seeking a loan to set up freezer immediately and pay back with fundraisers.

Next meeting 12/8. Adjourned 8:46
