Minutes of the Phoenix Earth Food Board Meeting Sep 29, 1992

Present: Madelyn Gratop, Kristie Dubois, Sandi Craig, Hal Hamer,Becky Fitzpatrick, and Dini Schut.

From 7:30 to 8:35 the Board discussed various options to solve our current cash-flow problems.

It was decided, but not voted upon, that until our daily income increases Lana Voyles will be laid-off and both managers' salaries will be cut. Furthermore even though Helen Elden has worked extremely hard, her organizational skills have not improved, and there has been a lack of awareness, it was felt, on her part of the store's financial picture on a daily basis. Even though Gary Ohler has not carried out all of his responsibilities either, Gary has shown greater iniatives and has followed through on each task requested of him. Therefore we decided to offer Gary more working hours and more responsibilities, which include ordering, inventory, and the fiscal responsibilities of running the store. Since one of Helen's greatest assets appears to be her ability to relate well to our customers and members, Helen will be in charge of the cash register, shelving the store, and continuing her open communication with our customers.

From 8:35 to 9:45 the Board met with Helen and Gary, and Lana was also present. We discussed our proposals with Helen and Gary, Helen objected to a salary cut that would reduce her salary below a take home pay of $1000 a month. Helen also brought up her point that our lack of sales is due to lack of members' shopping, and requested more support from the Board and from Committees. Becky proposed that she be hired to run the accounting part of the store. No definite action has been taken on that.

Gary reported that he is working very hard to enter all our inventory and past orders on the computer. He has it 80% complete, and it most likely will be finished by October 13th.

Kristie, and Becky will meet soon with Gary and Helen to discuss the salary cuts. Gary will discuss the change of manager with his wife before making a decision. Both managers indicated a willingness to work together to solve the many problems we have encountered. The board has also made a commitment to be more involved. We are all working together to keep this venture going.

Meeting adjourned at 9:45 p.m.
Respectfully submitted
