CO OP BOARD MEETING
MINUTES
9/14/1999

Present: Maryellen Barron, Mike Nestor, Theresa Gragg, Shelley Luettke, Helen Elden, Hollis Helmeci, Stacey Lipe-Grasso, Mary Clare Rietz

1st order of business:

Election of officers- Mike is elected new board president; Theresa retains title of v.president; John is treasurer; Stacey remains secretary.

One board vacancy needs to be filled. Mike suggests someone with marketing skills who would help to increase the membership. Hollis recommends an individual with a computer graphics background. Theresa volunteers to search for new board member- hopefully a person with marketing expertise.

2nd order of business:

Treasurers report- Mike reviews financial statements, which indicate sales are up. Mike informs board that Seneca has resigned as bookkeeper and is replaced by Sarah Oney. Significant debt of a former employee is discussed and it is agreed to write off debt.

3rd order of business:

Fundraising- Theresa says we should be planning monthly fundraisers and recommends forming a fundraising committee as Penny no longer heads the committee. Theresa suggests a phone calling campaign to enlist involvement of new members. Helen offers to post a fundraiser volunteer list at co op. Shelley suggests raising money at the up-coming Hobo Dinner.

4th order of business:

Manager's report- Helen reports sales are increasing.

Noel has left and a pew employee has been hired. Helen says newsletter will be out shortly.

5th order of business:

Membership meeting- Maryellen volunteers to call Eleanor Kahle Center for Semi-Annual Membership Meeting. The date is set for Tues. Oct. 26th, 7:00 p.m. The co op will provide cider and cookies. Theresa offers to put together phone list to call and request members attend meeting.

6th order of business:

Membership & Education Committee- Maryellen shares mission statement calling the newly formed educational branch the "Earth Food Connection". She is applying for 501-C3 status. She says a phone tree is being compiled. She reports that the Library Village Neighborhood Fall Festival will promote the co op.

7th order of business:

Carver Method update- Mike & Shelley are presently modifying the People's Co op Carver Policies. Maryellen volunteers to scan it onto a disc.

Other business:

Stacey inquires about status of liability insurance for board members. It is still being looked into.

Maryellen raises question of implementing a member equity policy with will be researched further.
